The Siphon filter is a simple and very compact drinking water filter that has been specially developed to give people who live in poor conditions access to clean and safe drinking water. For example, this filter is distributed by various aid agencies to families in disaster situations or underdeveloped areas.

Drinking water for the whole family

This little powerhouse can clean 10 liters per hour. It is super small and cheap to buy. This filter (if used correctly) can provide a family with clean and safe drinking water for a period of at least 1 year. Practice has shown that this can take up to several years, depending on the degree of contamination of the water source.

Suitable Water Sources for Use with Our AQUA Logic Emergency Water Filters

Rainwater: Easy to collect and directly filter.
Surface Water: For example, from ditches, lakes, rivers, and streams.
Tip: For optimal results, we recommend pre-filtering surface water with a cloth, such as a tea towel, to remove large contaminants.
Spring Water: Water from natural springs, if accessible.
Snow and Ice: Melted snow or ice can be filtered.
Note: Do not use snow or ice that is contaminated with salt or has lost its clear white color.
Groundwater: Water from shallow wells or boreholes.
Note: If the groundwater contains iron, it can be easily de-ironed by adding oxygen to the water. This can be done by pouring the water back and forth between two buckets. Allow the water to settle so that the iron particles accumulate at the bottom. The clear water on top can then be filtered with the AQUA Logic emergency water filter.
Rain Puddles: Water collected in depressions after rainfall. Pre-filter large contaminants before filtering.
Condensed Water: Water collected through condensation, such as with plastic sheets or collection systems.

Note: This filter is not suitable for purifying saltwater or heavily chemically contaminated water.

A. Use with Siphon

1. Connect the hose on filter.
2. Place the supplied filter cover over the filter and pull the cord tight.
3. Completely submerge the filter in a bucket of water.

Tip: If necessary, place a weight in the cover.

4. Place the supplied syringe on the outlet hose.
5. Draw air in with the syringe (5.1) and push it out (5.2). Repeat until water starts to flow.
6. The filter is ready. The outlet hose can be closed by pressing the clip.

Note: Do not use the first approx. 5 liters of filtered water for consumption.

B. Use with Gravity

1. Insert the outlet with one sealing ring through the hole of a reservoir, place the second ring on the underside, and tighten the nut.
2. Place a second reservoir and fill the upper reservoir with the water you want to filter. The water will start to pass through the filter element after a few minutes.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning the Filter
Lightly scrub the surface of the filter using the integrated cleaning pad. Rinse the filter and ensure the outlet does not come into contact with contaminated water. Using the syringe, gently push clean water back through the filter (backwash). Do not consume the first liter of filtered water.

2. Cleaning the Filter Element
Fill the syringe with clean water and place it on the filter spout. Push the water gently through the filter element. Repeat this several times.

3. Cleaning the Hose
Connect the outlet hose to the supplied syringe. Draw hot water through the hose by placing it in a container with boiling water. Let the hot water sit in the hose for 3 minutes. Then gently pull and push the water back and forth several times.

Storage During Extended Absence

Let the filter air dry and store it in a clean place. Drying near a heat source, such as a radiator or in sunlight, is recommended — but avoid direct contact between the heat source and the plastic parts, as this may cause damage.

Note: Although the filter housing itself is frost resistant, it is important to drain the filter and water system if not in use during winter months to avoid freezing.

Shelf life and Service Life

When unused, the filter has an almost unlimited shelf life, provided it is stored in a cool, dry, and dark place.

The recommended service life is 6 months. The actual lifespan depends on the water quality and the level of contamination of the water being treated. Replace the filter at least once a year.

If the filter is not used for an extended period, it can be removed and allowed to dry completely. After being stored in dry and hygienic conditions, the filter can be reused later. Periods during which the filter is stored completely dry do not need to be included in the actual service life.

Groundwater and De-Ironing

Groundwater may contain iron, which can cause a metallic taste and discoloration. You can easily remove iron from the water before filtering it with the AQUA Logic emergency water filter. Follow these steps:

Add Oxygen: Pour the groundwater back and forth between two buckets several times. This allows the water to absorb oxygen, oxidizing the iron.
Let it Settle: Allow the water to sit for several hours so the oxidized iron particles settle at the bottom.
Separate the Water: Carefully scoop or pour the clear water from the top into another bucket, leaving the iron particles at the bottom.
Filter: The clear water is now ready to be filtered with the AQUA Logic emergency water filter.

This simple method works well for water with low to moderate iron content. For water with high iron levels, additional techniques or tools may be necessary.

Disclaimer

This water filter is designed to reduce a wide range of contaminants to levels generally considered safe for daily use. Replacing the Inline Filter Element

First, turn off the water supply and open the tap to relieve pressure from the system.
You might want to place a basin under the filter. Unscrew the filter housing (counter-clockwise) and pull the filter element downwards to remove it.
You can scrub the active carbon cylinder's filter surface clean using the integrated cleaning pad. Afterward, rinse the filter element with water.
Insert the (new) filter element and tighten the housing again, but don't overtighten it – snug is enough. Make sure the rubber sealing ring is properly seated and clean when closing the housing.
After maintenance, the filter needs to be vented again by holding down the vent button until all the air has escaped. We also recommend that you do not use the first few liters for consumption after any maintenance.
Finally, check for any leaks to ensure the water filter housing is properly tightened.

Application

How to use

1. Connecting the Filter
Screw the supplied 3/8 inch hose pillars (or 3/8 inch nipples for the 10 inch version) with the O-rings in place into the lid. This allows the filter to be installed between the cold water supply line. Pay attention to the flow direction (IN/OUT).

Note: The 3/8 inch hose pillars are intended for use with a flexible water hose (if needed, secured with a hose clamp), as commonly found in recreational vehicles. For connection to a fixed water supply line, the 3/8 inch nipples should be used in combination with 3/8 inch braided hoses.

2. Mounting the Filter System
The filter system can be mounted using the supplied wall bracket. Please note that there must be approximately 10 cm of space under the system to be able to unscrew the bowl and filter element.

3. Marking the Filter First Use Date
Use the supplied date sticker to note the date of first use. Stick it visibly on the filter housing.

4. Deflate the Filter
Before use, the filter must be deflated. Press and hold the (black) vent button on top of the filter lid (while the system is pressurized and the tap is closed) until all air has escaped.

Tip: Hold a cloth near the vent valve to catch any water that may be released.

First Use
It is recommended to not use the first batch of filtered water (ca. 5 liter) for consumption. After that, the filter is ready to provide clean and safe drinking water.

Maintenance

Use the integrated sanding belt to thoroughly scrub the filter surface clean (see image on the right).
Rinse the activated carbon surface and ensure that the water outlet only comes into contact with clean water. As a precaution, do not use the first liter of filtered water for consumption.

4. Reassemble the Filter
Push the filter element back into the lid of the housing using a twisting motion and tighten the bowl; do not overtighten – hand-tight is sufficient. Ensure the rubber sealing ring is clean and properly positioned.

5. Deflate the System
Press and hold the (black) vent button on top of the filter lid (while the system is pressurized and the tap is closed) until all air has escaped.

Tip: Hold a cloth near the vent valve to catch any water that may be released.

How to use

Replacing the Filter Element

When the flow rate decreases, the filter element can be easily cleaned:

1. Relieve System Pressure
Turn off the water supply and turn on the tap to release pressure from the system.

2. Disassemble the Filter
Place a bowl or towel under the filter. Turn the filter housing counterclockwise to open.

3. Replacing the Filter Element
Remove the old filter element (3.1) and place the new filter element (3.2) into the filter bowl.

4. Reassemble the Filter
Tighten the bowl; do not overtighten – hand-tight is sufficient. Ensure the rubber sealing ring is clean and properly positioned.

5. Deflate the System

How to use

1. Connecting the filter
Screw the supplied 3/8 inch hose barbs or 3/8 inch nipples with the O-rings into the lids so that the filter set can be placed between the cold water supply line. Pay attention to the flow direction (IN/OUT).

Note: the 3/8 inch hose barbs are intended for use with flexible hoses (with a hose clamp if necessary), as commonly found in recreational vehicles. For connection to a fixed water line, the 3/8 inch nipples are used in combination with 3/8 inch flexible braided hoses.

2. Mounting the filter system
Mount the filter system using the supplied wall bracket. Allow approximately 10 cm of space below the system so that the bowls and filter elements can be easily removed.

3. Marking the date of first use
Write the date of first use on the supplied date sticker and place it visibly on the filter housing.

4. Venting the system
Before first use, the filter system must be vented. Press and hold the black vent buttons on top of the filter lids (while the system is pressurized and the tap is closed) until all air has escaped.

Tip: hold a cloth near the vent valves to catch any water that may be released.

5. First use
It is recommended not to use the first 5 liters of filtered water for consumption. After this, the filter system is ready to provide clean and safe drinking water.

Maintenance

Relieve water pressure
Shut off the water supply and open the tap to release pressure from the system.

Remove the filter elements
Place a bowl or towel under the filters. Unscrew the bowls counterclockwise. Pull the filter elements out of the housings with a twisting motion.

Cleaning the carbon filter element

Use the integrated cleaning pad to firmly scrub the surface of the carbon filter element.
Rinse the carbon surface and ensure that only clean water touches the water outlet. As a precaution, do not use the first liter of filtered water for consumption.

Ultrafiltration element
The ultrafiltration membrane cannot be cleaned and must be replaced annually or sooner if the flow rate decreases significantly.

Reinstalling the filter elements
Place the filter elements back into the lids with a twisting motion. Screw the bowls back on; do not overtighten – tight is tight. Check that the rubber sealing rings are clean and properly positioned.

Venting after maintenance
Press and hold the vent buttons (while the system is pressurized and the tap is closed) until all air has escaped.

Tip: hold a cloth near the vent valves to catch any water that may be released.

Storage during prolonged absence

Allow the filters to air-dry and store them in a clean, dry place.

Note: Although the filter housings themselves are frost-resistant, it is important to drain the filter and the water system if they are not being used during the winter months, in order to prevent freezing.

Shelf life and Life Span

When unused, the filter has a virtually unlimited shelf life, provided it is stored in a cool, dry, and dark place.

The recommended service life is 6 months. The actual lifespan depends on the water quality and the level of contamination of the water being treated. Replace the filter elements at least once a year.

During extended periods of non-use, the filter elements can be removed and allowed to dry completely. After being stored in dry, hygienic conditions, the filter can be reused later.

The AQUA Logic Survival Straw is a compact (emergency) water filter designed for situations where safe drinking water is unavailable. Its lightweight, portable design makes it ideal for hiking, travelling, and camping. What is unique about the Survival Straw is that it is easy to clean (backwash) during use.

A. Use with PET-bottle

Screw the filter onto an opened PET-bottle.
Open the spout cap and suck water through the filter. Sqeeuze the bottle if necessary.
After use, close the spout cap while the filter remains attached to the PET-bottle

B. Use with Straw

Attach the straw to the filter and open the spout cap.
Draw water through the filter using the straw from a water source.
Open the spout cap on the filter and blow firmly to expel remaining water from the filter.

C. Use with Water Bag

Unscrew the cap from the filter.
Unscrew the cap of the water bag and connect the filter.
Draw water using the supplied syringe.
Attach the syringe to the filter and press the water through the filter into the water bag.
Clean the filter by cutting back (a small amount of) filtered water.
Detach the filter from the water bag and screw onto the water bag.
Also screw the cap back onto the filter.
Blow the filter as empty as possible.
Enjoy the filtered water from the water bag.

Use & maintenance

Pre-Filter Combi lifespan: approx. 1 year (depending on water quality).
Ultra Washable membrane lifespan: multiple years with regular cleaning.
First use: When first used, fine grit may be released from the activated carbon granulate. Always flush the granulate pre-filter until the water runs clear.
If the pre-filter is used in series, temporarily remove the next filter element from the inline housing (or install it at a later stage) to prevent the flush water from passing through the next filter. Reinstall the next filter element once flushing is complete.
